Over the years I’ve made more than a few observations on what I call “Human Nature” (obviously not an original term), which I liken to a deep seated set of software commands silently running in the background of our daily lives…often to the detriment of our own progress and evolution. I’m not trying to create a stiff set of rules or opinions here or claim they are original constructs of my own, but certain behaviors can surface time and time again during our life’s journey (and study of music). Becoming aware of their existence and influence on our thinking and actions makes it easier to eliminate those aspects of Human Nature that can have a negative impact, and in turn then give us a greater, more conscious control over our own development and growth in music.
